THE GOD WITH US PRAYER

THE MORNING SERMON SERIES IN FITZROY - SEPT/OCT 2019

Fitzroy 10-10 Mission

I am excited to set off on a new sermon series that will theologically continue shape our identity in Fitzroy. I have been personally challenged to the core of my thinking on mission by the writings of Sam Wells. So I am now trying to apply it to Fitzroy’s pastoral care and mission.

On September 8th I launched the BEING WITH series by ripping Emmanuel out of Christmas and poking it into every nook and cranny of our living. I was amazed when I googled Emmanuel for an image and there was a manger or a Christmas star in almost every single picture.

For years I have been saying that Christmas should be all the year round There is a real danger of us leaving revolutionary theology with the words and concepts that we look into a few days of the year.

So, in September we will investigate this Advent word and its meaning and set out on a journey to unpack the pragmatic implications for our discipleship in our homes, Church, neighbourhood, city and world.

Expect to disagree with me, argue with yourself and begin to rethink how we have done pastoral care and mission up until now.

All wrapped in vibrant contemporary worship.

You remind me something of Chiara Lubich, the founder of Focolare.
In a Christmas poem she wrote:

Teach us, O Lord, how to preserve your presence among us.
It’s Christmas!
Let your love, set alight on earth, burn our hearts and let us love one another as you desire!
Then you will be there among us.
And every day, if we love one another, can be Christmas.
