Dr. Raymond Carr is in Belfast to speak at Queens University on May 26th as part of the Religious Studies Research Forum Lecture Series. These lectures are at 2.00 in the Senate Room and Raymond’s title is: "Thelonious Monk—Icon of the Eschaton: The Pneumatological Impulse in the Theologies of Karl Barth and James Cone”
Dr. Carr lectures in Old Testament and Theology at Pepperdine University, Southern California. He is a specialist in Karl Barth and Black Theology. He is currently writing a book which explores the connections between the jazz of Theolonius Monk and theology. Ray is married to Joi Carr who combines a career in academia with one as a recording and performing jazz artist.
He will also be speaking in Fitzroy at the morning service on May 28th (11am) and has given us the title: Being Confronted by the Presence of God (God’s Holiness) Isaiah 6:1-8. We have a worship band bringing some jazz sounds and Caroline Orr's amazing voice. I heard them rehearsing and they sound unbelievable. I am very excited!
