CHRISTMAS ALBUMS - BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA; GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN

Blind Boys Of Alabama - Go Tell It On The Mountains

 BBoA Xmas

It took the Blind Boys Of Alabama about sixty years to get worldwide recognition! This album from 2003 was released during a rich seam of work released on Peter Gabriel’s Real World label. It is stunningly good. Soak their deep Gospel groove in the story of the incarnation and then add vocal guests like Mavis Staples, Tom Waits, Michael Franti and Chrissie Hynde among others and you have another Christmas album worth playing when the family are round on Christmas evening.

Highlights for sure are Staples and Waits. Staples is the Queen of the spiritual and her matched up with the Blind Boys is so right. Born In Bethlehem soars as a result. Tom Waits doing Carols is a thought that bursts the soul! His Go tell It On The Mountain is everything you could dream of. He is not new to Carols regularly adding Silent Night to Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis but here he just finds a muse that reaches beyond your highest expectations.

For the Christmas Day Playlist:

Go Tell It On The Mountain (with Tom Waits)

Born In Bethlehem (with Mavis Staples)

Oh Come All Ye Faithful (with Me’shell Ndegéocello)
