That last point resonates with me, as I struggle to find a "home" on the ballot paper, to the point where I wonder if it's really so important to vote at all. There is, of course, the PUP (who did not field any candidates in GE2017), but personally I couldn't vote for them any more than I could vote for Sinn Fein.

I'd like to see Labour end its love-in with Irish Nationalism and start fielding candidates here - its manifesto this election was a strong one, one I'd like the opportunity to support. Threatening its own members with expulsion for fielding candidates in a UK election is madness!

Ultimately though, I'm trying not to be under any illusions about politics (of any variety) - perhaps inevitably it's less about serving the community and more about controlling it. And I strongly believe that pursuing that control is both morally wrong, and treacherous in any case. Events will always remain outside our control, thank God ;)
