You gotta see this! I gotta show you!
Last July we visited Abura school on the outskirts of Gulu in Uganda. The children greeted us with songs and that ability that African children have to just love you.
We went across the field to what they were using as school. It was tiny. It was dilapidated for sure. Primitive. Not at all built for purpose. It was the best that they could do with the resources that had.
Today Ednar Nyakaisiki Adyeer, Fields Of Life Executive Director in Uganda, Facebooked the photo below. It is hard to believe the transformation. The tree is the same! Now Abura have their dream come true; a school that is for for purpose.
Don’t think though that this ends with a building.
Think that no matter what the weather, classes can continue.
Think that now they can perhaps get government recognition, funding and more and better qualified teachers.
Think of the morale lift this is to a community that has nothing.
Think of the hope that this builds into lives who seemed to have nothing to hope for but have now watched hope fulfilled.
Think of the children, now in a better environment to learn, develop and get equipped to take not their role of transforming Uganda. I said in the summer that a future President might come from this school. There is more chance of that today.
Think of God's Kingdom come and God's will being done in Abura as it is in heaven!
Think of the community transformation that can happen, for just a little over half the cost of an average house price in Northern Ireland.
Think that you can contribute to such change.
My thoughts are excited and inspired, grateful and hopeful this morning.
