I wrote this last New Year's Eve and sadly it is still the prayer for 2013... The Haass talks have left us nothing but frustration, disappointment and hoplessness. Yet, it provoked me for the first time to think more imaginatively. We need a new way to destroy the old one that has us and our political leaders in chains. As we rise to a new day and a new year let us be more creative than most generations on this island have been in hundreds of years. Let us throw off the curse of what we have done to one another in the past and give ourselves to God's redemption and shalom in a better future...
Rainbow rising like a rocket
To rip open the old year sky
Burning bright promise of a future
Now that’s a flag we all can fly
For rejuvenation and redemption
All the possibilities of imagination
A city coming down out of heaven
Casting Shalom all across the nation
Where the old can walk the streets at night
And the children can play all day
Where men and women go off to work
For much more than their fiscal pay
Where everybody has a belonging
And there’s no talk of them and me
Where every neighbour loves their neighbour
And makes friends with their enemies
Where we all learn how to love mercy
And seek justice in all that we do
Walking humbly before our God
Deep, gentle and gracious and true
Rainbow rising like a rocket
To rip open the old year sky
Colours exploding in the new one
As all that’s been fizzles goodbye.
I know you probably can't wait to chide the "Christians" in the DUP. Although given we have now discovered it was the Alliance who rejected a deal, I now await your blog post complaint about the so called Christians in the Alliance party.
Won't hold my breath Stocki!
